A proclamation from the White House has ordered flags to fly at half-staff all day Wednesday in recognition of Patriot Day.
Patriot Day was created in December 2001 to memorialize the nearly 3,000 individuals who perished in the 9/11 terrorist attacks.
The day also honors first responders, members of the military, and Americans affected by the attacks and their aftermath.
“Our prayers will continue for the survivors who still bear physical and emotional wounds and for the families who lost loved ones,” President Trump said in a statement Tuesday. “We also pray for the members of our Armed Forces who risk their lives in service to our country and for the first responders who work tirelessly to ensure the safety of others.”
