EDINBURG — Mexican actor Jorge Reynoso Martinez appeared at the Edinburg municipal court Tuesday on a charge of indecency with a child.

Reynoso, 62, is accused of inappropriately touching a 10-year-old family member on Aug. 5, according to the criminal complaint.

The alleged incident occurred when the victim and her family were getting ready for a wedding. According to the complaint, she stated that Felix Jorge Reynoso told her to sit next to him while in her mother’s bedroom.

“(The victim) will testify that she was wearing a dress while sitting next to Jorge, Jorge began giving her a massage and rubbed her upper thighs, then moved up toward her underwear,” the complaint reads, further stating that the victim accused the suspect of touching her genitals over her underwear.

Because of his strong connections to Mexico, Municipal Judge Toribio “Terry” Palacios said he was concerned Martinez was a flight risk. Thus, Palacios set a $250,000 bond and required that the actor wear a GPS monitoring device and surrender his passport. He also prohibited Reynoso from having contact with the victim or the victim’s family.

His attorney, Calixtro Villarreal, declined to comment as he said it was his policy to not comment on cases. However, in trying to obtain a lower bond for his client, Villarreal informed Judge Palacios that Reynoso was a legal permanent resident of the United States and had lived in Edinburg for almost 15 years. He also noted that Reynoso had family in Edinburg and Roma as well as a son who studied in San Antonio.

However, Palacios, who was initially leaning toward a half-a-million bond, stressed his concern over Reynoso possibly fleeing to Mexico and pointed to the fact that Reynoso was apprehended at the border as an indication that he travels between Mexico and the United States often.

“I know he has the resources to make bond and I know flight risk is an issue because he has plenty (of) ties in Mexico and that’s my biggest concern,” Palacios said. “I just want to make sure he does show up to court and, there’s no guarantees in life, but I want to assure myself that he is going to make it.”
