Monitor to host Edinburg CISD bond discussion

The Monitor will host a panel discussion on the upcoming Edinburg school district bond election Wednesday as part of its Monitor Debate series.

The Edinburg Consolidated Independent School District is asking voters for a $220 million bond that, if approved, would fund the construction of a new high school and middle school, among other things. Early voting begins Monday and Election Day is May 4.

Monitor staff writer Naxiely Lopez-Puente will moderate the discussion with ECISD board president Robert Peña speaking in support of the bond’s passage and ECISD school board member Mike Farias making an argument against it.

The Monitor may also use questions from the public during the debates, and will begin asking its readers for questions via its social media pages on Monday.

The discussion will be livestreamed on at 10 a.m. Wednesday. It is not open to the public.

If you can’t watch the discussion live, it will be available to watch on
