Advice: It’s time to trash stress

It’s impossible to live without stress, because almost anything causes a certain amount of anxiety.

Family, work or planning a vacation can give you stress. On a daily basis we are bombarded with information that can overwhelm us.

Flu season, cancer, hearing about a friend with an illness or passing of a loved one, all are stress inducing. Worrying about bullying and social media and how it will affect our children or grandchildren causes stress. The news and the way in which is presented today can also be stressful.

We have to learn how to live with it. I read once that stress is the trash of modern life. If we look at stress as trash, wouldn’t it make sense to throw it out and make sure it never takes over our homes?

The first step to handling stress is recognizing if what you are worrying about is something you can change.

It’s difficult to handle issues when your cup is over flowing. The biggest mistake we make when we lead hectic lives is not taking a break.

Breaks can be something as simple as engaging in the moment you are living. If you are driving to work, turn on the radio and listen to soothing music or listen to a podcast.

When you are stressed, it’s impossible to think clearly and getting things done takes more effort.

Mini sessions of self-care go a long way and can give you the energy you need to keep going. Learn to say no to the pressure society and family puts on you.

Next time you find yourself focusing on a list of problems, take a moment to take a deep breath and clear your mind. Focus your attention on something that brings you joy. Interrupt the flow of your thoughts with a movie, book or a hobby.

We all have problems we just need to give ourselves permission to take a load off.
Who ever said, “There is nothing in nature that blooms all year long, so don’t expect yourself to do so either,” was wise.
