Missing McAllen man discovered in Alton pond on Christmas Day

ALTON — A man found floating in a detention pond here Christmas Day has been identified as 25-year-old Eustacio Christian Mireles, who had been missing for more than a month.

Alton police recovered Mireles’ body from a pond in the 600 block of North Mexico Street at approximately 12:20 p.m. Wednesday after a resident came across the body while visiting the pond, said Alton Police Chief Jonathan Flores.

Mireles’ family reported him missing to McAllen police on Nov. 21, according to a McAllen police news release. Police said he voluntarily left his residence and was last seen in the 200 block of 39th Street, and indicated there was concern about his well being, but provided no other details.

The results of Mireles’ autopsy are still pending, and his cause of death is unknown at this time.
