McAllen-Hidalgo International Bridge prepares for holiday traffic

The McAllen-Hidalgo International Bridge is taking part in a federal program that allows public or private entities to help pay for additional staffing for U.S. Customs & Border Protection officers to have more lanes open in preparation for holiday shoppers, according to a city of McAllen news release.

Beginning on Friday and continuing through Sunday and then again on Dec. 28 through Dec. 30, the international bridge will have additional CBP supervisors, allowing all lanes to be open to expedite their processes. All 10 lanes of the bridge will be open from 6 to 10 a.m. on each of the previously mentioned days.

The city hopes to minimize bridge wait times to get travelers from Mexico into McAllen stores, restaurants, hotels and gas stations, the news release states.
