Grants available for home repairs following June flooding

The Federal Home Loan Bank of Dallas is issuing half-a-million-dollars in grants to homeowners affected by the recent June floodings, U.S. Rep. Vicente Gonzalez announced Monday.

Homeowners can receive up to $10,000 for repair or construction costs not already covered by insurance or state and federal emergency assistance, Gonzalez said.

“This is Texas – lending a helping hand is how we take care of each other in the Lone Star State,” Gonzalez said in a prepared statement. “I would like to thank the Federal Home Loan Bank of Dallas for sharing the spirit of giving and providing their fellow Texans with the resources necessary to return to their normal lives. I encourage those affected by natural disasters to apply for assistance, which does not have to be repaid.”

Grants are available through FHLB Dallas member institutions, which according to the banks’ website, include Inter National Bank, Bank of South Texas, Rio Bank and Affordable Homes of South Texas.

Applicants must have at least 30 days of current ownership and must have had primary ownership when it was declared a federal disaster by the Federal Emergency Management Agency.

The funds will be awarded on a first-come, first-served basis.
